NOTES ON THE PERFORMANCE
Beethoven's hymn to love and freedom returns to the stage in the majestic, essential production created by Deborah Warner for Daniel Barenboim’s last season opening spectacle at La Scala in 2014. In 2018 Myung-whun Chung will tackle for the first time Beethoven’s masterpiece, which for him has always represented the link between music and the values of humanism. Simone Schneider sings Leonore alongside Stuart Skelton – one of the world’s most respected heroic tenors of our time – in the role of Florestan, while the part of the wicked Don Pizarro is played by Luca Pisaroni.
